Baby Pictures That Didn't Turn Out As Well As Expected

Heather Jackson

Straight Shooter

Babies are cute, cuddly, and simply lovable little human beings. They can easily disarm you with their sweet little ways and melt your heart while at it. Capturing their adorableness in pictures can go in either two ways; you'll have precious photos to add to your tot's album or wildly hilarious snaps like this one to fish out during future dinners.

While still in the womb, fetuses start peeing around the eighth week but urine production only increases in their 13th and 16th week. By week 25, they reportedly start swimming and drinking their urine as the layer of cells blocking their mouth ruptures.

Little Asher's Work Of Art

Little Asher and his dad were about to end up with an artistic picture to add to their family album or even possibly frame for their wall. Things started fine until the newborn felt comfortable enough to do a number two. They still got a perfect shot but the second frame serves as a reminder of what it takes to create a masterpiece.

Asher might grow up to follow in his old man's footsteps and get himself some ink. At this stage, he has a birthmark just like 80% of newborns who have some form of colored speck under their skin.

The Portrait Of A Proud  Dad

Here's yet another dad who simply wanted a beautiful black and white photo with his little one. They sure did get the money shot but the second frame reveals that the little munchkin had a surprise in store. If the photos are anything to go by, the newborn has a super calm father who takes everything in stride.

Newborns spend the majority of time sleeping and even when awake they look sleepy. During their first few years of life, infants are reportedly only fully alert for three minutes out of every hour. It's simply because their brains are absorbing plenty of information and they use up every ounce of their body's glucose supply in no time at all.

Chin-up Flop

As adorably cute as they are, these little munchkins remind us of the famous meme "what you order versus what you get." Perhaps the young one's folks went to the photoshoot wielding the perfect chin-up photo for reference. They soon realized that kids have a mind of their own and they don't always cooperate when you want them to.

Speaking of which, while they might raise a hell screaming their lungs out for attention, newborns don't produce any tears. They might be theoretically crying but the waterworks only start after their tear ducts develop fully after their third week out of the womb. Even then, the young tots still produce moisture to keep their pearly little eyes lubricated.

The Golden Hour

This champ right here found a way to remind his folks who is the real boss. The look on his poor mom's face makes it even funnier while his dad is well reacting as most dads would. On the plus side, the munchkin looked straight at the camera which isn't an easy task to accomplish.

The heavyweight right here must have been born in May. According to research, tots born during that month weigh about seven ounces more than infants born any other month. Folks usually assume that January tots are the heaviest given that their birth falls right after the festive season.

The Poster For "Something 's Not Right"

Here's a fashionable mom who rocked a red number paired with a crystal necklace for the occasion. She was all set to document her young one's first days and just as the shutter clicked, things went wrong. You can't fault the perfectly-timed snap, and the looks on their faces tell it all.

This young tot must have eventually started appreciating his mom's sense of style, but as a newborn, he possibly only perceived gray, black, and white colors. Fresh out of the womb, infants have impaired vision and their focus is within the eight to twelve-inch range. They only develop a sense of color after spending several weeks out of the womb.

Feeling Relieved

This tot right here might have a future in the advertising industry. One look at his face is enough to convince anyone to buy an anti-constipation solution. Hopefully, his folks realize soon enough that they are raising a star in the making. Speaking about getting photo-ready most infants start smiling when they are six to eight weeks old.

Research also shows that infants can recognize their musical preferences. It starts when they are still in the womb, and from around the fourth month of gestation, fetuses can hear sounds. If you regularly played your bundle music before birth, the chances are that the same acoustics will calm them down after delivery.

Prepare For The Unexpected

Despite the tinkle, you have to agree that these are a series of sweet photos. In the grand scheme of things, they remind us that babes in arms are bewitchingly captivating and wildly entertaining in unusual ways. Yet another lesson is to always prepare for the unexpected during your photo shoot appointment.

The little munchkins have the power to take your breath away, and interestingly, newborns stop breathing on occasion. It's something that causes alarm to most first-time mothers and fathers but irregular breathing is normal in infants. When sleeping, they'll often stop breathing for five to ten-second intervals.

His Royal Grumpiness Wasn't Having It

In yet another edition of "what you order versus what you get," this photo deserves its place on the mantle. His royal grumpiness wasn't having the best day but still had to squeeze in time away from his regular shut-eye session for this photoshoot. He wasn't going to be a good sport about it and the frown on his face speaks volumes.

At least the young tot isn't screaming his lungs out, and if he were, his cries would possibly frighten it. The potential for newborns to scare themselves when crying is referred to as the Moro reflex. Tots gradually outgrow it within a few months.

A Spitting Image Of His Poppa

Spit-ups are a normal occurrence with infants, and in most cases it's harmless. It's a result of what's known as gastroesophageal reflux or in simple terms, infant acid reflux. Most tots outgrow it when they turn one year old and the only cause for concern is if the frequency is high and it affects the infant's weight.

Newborns have a different food experience compared to adults and older children. Research reveals that they don't detect bitterness before turning two to three months old. Tots also only start picking up on saltiness when from their third to fourth months. When weaning starts, often at six months, infants show a preference for foods their moms ate while expectant.

 A Drool-worthy Photo

Newborns start drooling around their second or third month. It happens because the young tots haven't fully developed control over the muscles responsible for swallowing. It isn't a cause for alarm because it indicates that your bundle of joy has a digestive system that's functioning as it should.

Remember that saliva helps to break down food and cleans the mouth, so to speak, which prevents your tot from getting sick. Your munchkin will keep drooling constantly until turning 18 to 24 months old. This drool-worthy photo is a prime example of the realities that come with having a happy and healthy young one.

Big Brother Won't Let It Slide

This is one big brother who was possibly dragged away from his regular play routine to pose for this photo. The stars aligned and his sibling exerted revenge on his behalf. Even though his dad got a picture at the end of the day the young man wasn't about to let it slide and pointed out how the whole photoshoot ended up being quite the mess.

Thankfully, this little chap won't have any recollection of his experiences in life past the age of three. Researchers refer to the phenomenon as infantile amnesia, and as they grow, tots don't remember what happened in the first three years of their life.

Nothing Happened

This cheeky munchkin has already mastered the "nothing happened" look. Toddlers are the masters of covering their tracks when they've gotten up to something naughty, and this infant seems to be ahead of his time. We can excuse the tot because he doesn't know any better, and his cognitive development only goes into full gear around the age of 12 to 24 months.

Lessons start quite early for kids, and they learn the most from observing how others behave around them. They'll pick up cues on how to behave appropriately, and unfortunately, if they are exposed to unacceptable actions they might internalize them.

When You Least Expect It

The first frame is simply heart-melting, and then the second reminds us that we are still on planet Earth. Young tots have a way of grounding you and also reminding you that there's still plenty to learn. For starters, it's now more than clear that your bundle of joy will tinkle when it's least expected but on the upside, it's still a cute snap.

Another interesting fact about newborns is the fact that they are ambidextrous. It isn't until the age of two or three that they start favoring one hand over the other. Kids who have a left-handed parent are also more likely to favor the same hand.

Sunny With A Chance To Be Pooped On

Poo aside, you have to admit that most of these photos are awe-inspiring. It goes to show that not even accidental bowel movements can stop the bundles of joy from being extra cute. This young one looks like he's only a few days old and dad's super proud of his munchkin's ability to truly steal the spotlight.

The little tot seems to have lost half its hair which is quite normal. Newborns progressively lose their luscious locks in the first few weeks of life but it grows back in no time. Interestingly, they can also go from having straight locks to a curly mane in months.

Fido Kept Minding His Business

There's so much going on in this photo, and it's even funnier because you wouldn't believe it until you saw it. So these folks decided to pose for a family portrait, and Fido was also included in it. Suddenly, their little angel decided to let it rip and mom went in for the save.

On the other hand, dad was beside himself laughing at the entire situation. Even funnier, Fido kept minding his business because all the shenanigans didn't concern him. It looks like there's never a dull moment in this household and the little girl will undoubtedly grow up with lots of laughter.

Facing The Tinkle Head On

This photo sums up a typical day when dad's left home with the young one. At least this is a father who is facing the unexpected tinkle head-on, and like most other dads this will probably be a photo he'll use to earn some bragging points. Perhaps the situation might have caused dad to curse involuntarily but you always want to use child-friendly words around tots.

With their laser-sharp hearing, toddlers are very receptive to sounds. However, like the rest of us, their sense of hearing gradually decreases over the years. As adults, we naturally tune out some high frequencies that infants haven't quite learned to block out yet.

There's Always A First For Everything

As much as folks love welcoming a new addition, it's the siblings who increase the excitement tenfold. There are tons of videos online showing how older siblings react to the news about welcoming their latest family member.

In the majority of the cases, the sweet videos have stolen our hearts even more and even got most people thinking about expanding their families. This little girl must have been elated when her folks brought her little brother from the hospital. She also looks quite happy to pose for a photo with the young chap, even after her brother got sick all over her.

Looking At The Bright Side Of Life

Infants laugh about 300 times daily, and for reference, the average adult only finds something to chuckle at about 60 times each day. Well, you could argue that when your life is as simple as a young tot's then you'd have plenty to laugh about.

If you thought that making funny faces would be enough to elicit a feat of laughter from your bundle of joy, think again. Toddlers are naturally biased and they are attracted to shapes that resemble human faces. Beyond that, infants are quite picky given that they favor prettier faces. Research further states that they'll stare at faces they find pleasant-looking longer.

Floored

Once again, here is a reminder that you won't always get what you want in life. Kudos to this chap's folks for making sure that he had diapers on before they embarked on the photoshoot session. They had an idea in mind but were reminded soon enough that newborns won't sing to your tune.

If you need something else to laugh about, young tots cry in accents. That's according to a research team from the University of Wurzburg who found that young ones do pick up on their mother's native tongue off the bat. It happens in the final semester of pregnancy and the little bundles are even thought to exhibit characteristics like speech patterns.

An Ominously Messy Photoshoot

We hate to admit it but the first frame is kind of ominous. Could be the stoic expression on this dad's face and the way he's cradled his young one. Thankfully, the little chap decided to loosen things up and the second frame is not exactly a breath of fresh air but it makes us sigh in relief.

Interestingly, fetuses reportedly grow mustaches that soon spread throughout their entire bodies in a month. Known as lanugo, the mustache falls off before birth and the precious bundles of joy consume them. Some of the mustaches are reportedly visible on tots who are born prematurely.

Oops It Happened Again

These folks deserve an award for staying cool under pressure. Their little one just did a number two but they stayed calm and got a half-decent photo at the end of it. At this stage, the tot can mostly only communicate by crying. It mostly either means that they are hungry, wet, feel cold, tired, or simply want to be held.

Soon enough, you should be able to pick up on what your tot's cries mean. For instance, low-pitched and short cries often mean that they are hungry. Choppy cries could mean that your munchkin isn't a happy camper. Also, remember that infants sometimes cry simply because they feel overwhelmed by different sounds and sights that are not accustomed to.

Photographers See It All

As much as these folks ended up with unusually epic photos, we imagine that the shutterbugs behind them have seen it all. It takes a lot of patience to work with kids, and in the case of infants, there's always a surprise lurking around. Sometimes, the experiences result in Picasso-like creations much like what's captured in this snap.

Infants are quite amazing because as quickly as they grow, they learn even more with each passing minute. It's best displayed by how they learn to talk, and from around 18 months the average toddler reportedly adds a new word to their vocabulary every two hours.

The Reality You Didn't Bargain For

This is one tea party that's not going down well! The props and backdrop are sweet. and you can tell that a lot of work went into putting together the photoshoot. Just that one toddler wasn't having a peachy day and ended up ruining what would have otherwise been a cute-themed photo.

Twins are still a marvel, whether they are identical or fraternal. 40% reportedly coin their special languages and they reportedly start interacting while still in the womb. Identical twins don't have similar fingerprints and they are also likely to develop different diseases. Research has proven that twins can have different fathers.

A Little Accident

Psychologist David Foulkes dedicates his time to studying kids from infancy to their teen years. Based on his research, newborns dream when sleeping but in their case, it's mostly snapshots or slideshows of things. Dreams come from points of reference and imagination, and kids' dreams only take shape as they grow.

With that said, you can rest assured that your little one doesn't have nightmares as well. Dream narratives become complex from around the age of eight with thoughts as well as feelings attached to them. It's safe to assume that this munchkin was simply dreaming about taking a tinkle.

The Easter Grinch

First things first, this is a cute photoshoot idea for a tot who joins the world during Easter. The first frame is all kinds of adorable but then the second photo reminds you that reality doesn't always meet your expectation. Something that's also fascinating about kids is how they seem to grow overnight.

You'll often hear folks saying that their young ones grew taller in a day, and it might be true. Kids grow in spurts and they've been observed to get bigger by half an inch overnight. The spurts are also segmented in the sense that the feet, arms, and legs grow at different rates.

Just A Typical Newborn Session

It isn't surprising that at almost every newborn session they end up taking a tinkle. Infants urinate every 20 minutes and the frequency only reduces when they turn six months old. From then on, they take a tinkle roughly every hour. It's also cute how little girls often have a headband adorning their tiny heads for photoshoots.

All around the globe, tots are usually adorned with amulets, necklaces, and anklets to protect them from the Evil Eye. Some of the ornaments feature an odd number of beads, five-point stars, crescent shapes, coral, or tiger images which are all thought to have protective powers.

Hanging In There

This little munchkin continues looking lovable even after chucking out most of the milk he'd consumed before the photoshoot. Even more adorable, its pearly eyes are smiling telling you that he's a happy tot. It might be unsettling for some new folks but spitting has always been considered a powerful thing since way back.

Ancient Greeks also warded off the Evil Eye by spitting on themselves. During Medieval times, nurses were known to lick their charges' faces. The same extended to young tots and it's still common practice in most places across the world for folks to spot on their children's faces.

Dad's Always In The Line Of Fire

It's fair to conclude that dads are always in the line of fire when tots have oopsy moments during photoshoots. Young tots can differentiate their mother from other adults. They are said to recognize their mom's smell as well as voice right from birth. The preference for their mothers, over other adults, fully strengthens from the age of two to four months.

However, infants can also display favoritism towards their primary caregivers and not necessarily their moms. As they get older, their attention may wander to their dad or other family members. It heightens once they can identify other people and their socialization skills develop further.

Magical Baby Photoshoot with Shower Sprinkles

His folks must have spent time planning this picture-perfect moment, but the baby had a better idea. We can’t blame him because he is too young to know the appropriate time to answer nature’s call. Thankfully, the photographer and the boy’s family will always have this hilarious memory reminding them how cute babies are regardless of the situation.

It’s interesting to see the boy so happy and calm. The warmth of the urine must have fascinated him for a second. It could also be something he is used to, seeing that the young ones actively pee in the womb when their kidneys fully form between thirteen and sixteen weeks gestation.

Being A Mum Is All About Embracing The Ups & Downs

The first image shows a very happy mum basking in her sweetheart’s glory, probably after feeding her bundle of joy. The mum is all smiles, proud of her work, not knowing what awaits. She may have forgotten to burp the child, evidenced by the second photo.

Funny enough, the spit-up never missed the mark. It went directly into her mouth. Oh, the joys of having a child. Unicef stresses that burping your child is an important part of the feeding routine. It allows the little one to remove gas they may have swallowed when eating and it also prevents spitting up.

Welcome To Motherhood

Mums cannot catch a break. After carrying the baby for nine months and taking care of the tot, this mother may have decided to show her sweet pea some beautiful nature. All dressed up to enjoy the outdoors, the baby must have been overfed and wanted to empty up some space in the stomach.

Without warning, her offspring innocently throws up, and instinctively, mama tries to catch it in her hands before making a mess. We hope they had an extra pair of clothes. According to the Mayo Clinic, most healthy babies will experience stomach contents coming back into the esophagus, especially if they are relatively full for almost a year.

I Just Wanna Sleep, And Tinkle

Daddy certainly got more than he bargained for when posing with his champ. The little boy decided to “spice” up the picture with a stream after relieving himself. The dad, seemingly lost in the moment, is about to be woken up with some cold liquid on the face. Luckily, it looks like his ray of sunshine did not soak his ears with piss.

We can agree that it is still an adorable photograph. Most photographists say that newborns pass water during their sessions. Healthychildren.org explains that kids may urinate as often as every one to three hours, something professionals should keep in mind during photo sessions.

What Else Could Go Wrong?

Babes are known to puke, poop, and pee in the most untimely moments. A perfect example is this print. Angelface possibly does not know what is going on. A few inches lower and he would be inhaling the urine. Mum is shocked at the turn of events. The candid moment captures a polite reminder of the youngling's humor even when they cannot speak.

From the second the munchkins set their foot on earth, they usually have plenty of surprises for their folks. Baby Center states that babies can hear voices and other sounds from around 23 weeks of pregnancy, even though they will not say their first word until they are about 12 months old.

Mom, Dad, I know I'm Cute, But Please Stop!

Mum and dad are deeply in love with their latest addition to the family and want to shower the tot with infinite kisses. At first, the little one was in the mood and appreciated all the attention. After some time, he just couldn't take it anymore, and the munchkin wanted his folks to quit it already.

It's funny that the two shots could have happened within minutes or even seconds. The youngling may be thinking that his folks have a hidden agenda to squish the love out of him. Keep in mind that infants have supersized body parts, whereas newborns' heads account for a quarter of their body length.

I Am Just Trying To Take A Nap And Get Some Relief

Parenting is full of bitter-sweet moments. After little nugget was born, ma and pa wanted a photo that they would cherish for life. As soon as everything was set and the snapper was clicking away, the baby had to go, and there was nothing anyone could do about it. Honeypie perhaps just wanted to rest or nap and was not used to life without a diaper.

Thanks to the memory, everyone will have something to laugh about in the future. The babe in arms probably just ate and needed some relief. Recently born children’s stomachs are just the size of a hazelnut explaining why the very young need to feed often.

Siblings Are  A Blessing And A Curse In Equal Measure

You never really know what to anticipate with brothers and sisters. At times, they may be loving, supportive, and super delightful. Other times, you may be forgiven to think that they want to start another World War. The perfect example is the picture above.

The first photo is a blessing where everyone is cooperative, sweet, and full of joy. The mother and father may have wanted to recreate the image, but their kids did not have it. Maybe, it would have been okay if they maintained the original sitting order. And to think that the young ones derive the people who brought them to earth approximately 44 days of sleep in the first year.

Uh Oh, Crossing Fingers Dad Brought An Extra Shirt

Pops was determined to get a good picture of his neonate, but the youngest conjured up a plan to go viral. The look on the munchkin's face says that this was no accident.  Perhaps the tot didn't approve of his father’s outfit that day and he was simply making a bold statement.

Dad was preciously holding the little chap because everyone knows that tots are precious little beings. However, it's with noting that babies are born with around 300 bones, which are almost a hundred more than what adults have. As they grow, some will fuse, and most get harder.

Not All That Glitters...

Taking impeccable pictures of kids is an extreme sport. All people see are the stunning results without knowing what happens behind the scenes. It’s one of the reasons primary caregivers spend a considerable amount of time looking for photoshoot inspo, hoping to achieve magazine cover-worthy images.

Parents soon enough find out that all babies are not the same. Case and point; the twins in the second print. They were more interested in props than the photo, but they are still loveable, and the memories will remain. Some experts suggest red is the first color that infants recognize, and the last are purple and blue.

The Crowning Moment

This photo says that dad will always be proud of his munchkin through all the ups and downs. A study conducted by the University of Carolina concluded that we favor our fathers more genetically speaking. Each parent contributes the same amount of genetic factors to their child but at the end of the day, infants use up more of the dad's DNA.

Moms also naturally have soothing voices which kids find naturally soothing and comforting, something scientists call "motherese." A Washinton State University study revealed that fathers often maintain a steady voice when talking to their children. It isn't a bad thing because it serves as a conversational bridge to the real world.
