Amanda often found herself in this predicament. She always seemed to be with the wrong boys, even when she tried hard to pick the right one. Most of the time, she felt like they only wanted her for her appearance. For example, she got into a relationship with Pablo, who was much older than her.

Many women think that older boyfriends are better than young men—however, this isn't always the case. And Amanda was about to find out that mature doesn't always mean better. In fact, sometimes, men going for young girls can be a red flag. Something happened between her and Pablo that hurt her forever.

Older isn't Always Better

One afternoon, Amanda called her boyfriend Pablo and told him about her plans to attend her friend Fernanda's birthday with him. However, when he received the call, she felt like he wasn't paying attention to her. What Amanda didn't know was that Fernanda was actually with Pablo when she called.

Pablo thought that Amanda would be at work, so he snuck to Fernanda's apartment to spend time with her. When her girlfriend called, he was actually in bed cuddling with Fernanda and, therefore, could not pay attention to her. Fernanda then interrupted the call and made him hang up in a hurry.

They Made a Big Mistake

After the call ended, the phone rang again, and she picked up, but nobody was talking on the other end. The only thing Amanda could hear was weird noises in the background. Soon enough, she realized that Pablo must have called her by mistake.

She decided to listen closely, and that's when she recognized the voices on the other end. She couldn't believe that her boyfriend Pablo and Fernanda were together. Her instincts told her they weren't at Pablo's house but Fernanda's. Amanda decided that she had to confront them, but not before she picked up a very important item on the way.

A Crime of Passion

Amanda decided to pick up a baseball bat and head over to her friend's house. It wasn't long before she barged into Fernanda's place wielding her weapon. Pablo and Fernanda were in total shock when they saw Amanda carrying the bat, and they had no idea that they had called her by mistake.

In a moment of anger, Fernanda lifted the baseball bat and hit Pablo hard with it, making sure that he would never cheat on anybody again. Despite what he had done to her, hitting Pablo was still a crime, and Amanda would probably be arrested for assault.

Pablo Pleads with Amanda

All cheaters react in shock when they are caught. Most of the time, they do not expect their spouse could be on to them, and Pablo went through just that. He denied what was right in front of Amanda and claimed that he had been kidnapped.

Of course, this wasn’t true. It is common for cheaters to lie when they get exposed. According to research, some people cheat because they feel that they need variety, others cheat due to a lack of love, and sometimes they feel like they weren’t committed in the first place. But in this case, it wasn’t clear why Pablo betrayed Amanda.

Pablo Files a Law Suit Against Amanda

We would all want our love to last forever, but this isn't often the case. It is difficult to imagine ourselves filing a lawsuit against someone that we once loved dearly, but sometimes, people break up for many reasons, such as incompatibility and a lack of love.

After Amanda attacked Pablo with the baseball bat, he decided to file a case against her. Assault is a serious offense in the eyes of the law. Those found guilty could face jail time, or they could be fined depending on the severity of the assault; however, first-time offenders may receive lenient sentencing.

Managing her Anger

Faced with the serious crime she had committed, Amanda decided to seek help, so she went to a psychiatrist to discuss her anger management. While rage is a normal and healthy human emotion, it can be dangerous when it goes unchecked.

After all, we cannot go around attacking people because they cheated on us. There are three ways of dealing with anger, one is expressing, the other is suppressing, and the last one is calming. Suppressing is probably the most unhealthy way to deal with anger. The best way is to find a way to express it in a healthy manner.

No Regrets

They say that there is nothing worse than a woman scorned, and judging by Amanda’s attitude, we can attest that this expression is quite accurate. When she went to the psychiatrist, Amanda said she did not feel any guilt, and if it happened again in the future, she would react the same way.

However, the psychiatrist told her that her reaction had gone too far and anybody who causes bodily harm to others must be detained. This changed Amanda’s mind, and she began to show remorse for what she had done. She decided to try and check her anger to avoid getting into trouble.

Trouble at Work

Since the case made it to the police, it was only a matter of time before it made it to Amanda's workplace, and eventually, it did. She went to her boss and tried explaining that she was betrayed by the two people that she loved the most in the world.

However, her boss didn't understand and probably felt like Amanda was no longer a safe person to have around the workplace since she now had a criminal record. He decided to fire Amanda and even accused her of flirting with co-workers, which according to Amanda, was untrue. It felt like everyone had turned against her.

Time for Change

Life can be difficult and confusing after heartbreak, but there are some ways that we can cope and rebuild ourselves. We can rewire our thoughts and become even better than we were before. One of the ways to achieve this is by moving to a new town, and this is exactly what Amanda decided to do.

It is not possible to run away from ourselves or our feelings, but a change of scene can help adjust our perspective to the new reality. Amanda moved from her city of Santiago to Valparaiso, where her brother had a house that he wasn't using, and he let her stay there.

She Had One Concern

Amanda was now on her journey to healing. She had made the steps necessary to solve her problems, and now, all she needed to do was keep herself busy until she was ready for a new love story. However, she was worried about one thing; men pursuing her.

Some may be surprised to hear this, but it isn't surprising at all. When we are trying to forge a new path for ourselves, the last thing we need is distractions from outsiders. Starting over in a new city is challenging, especially if we don't know anyone already living there. There are a few ways that can make us feel like we are right at home. For example, we can find the local spots where everyone hangs out; this is one way to make us feel right at home.

Another way is saying yes to work outings even when we don't yet know our co-workers. Amanda was looking for a new job, and mingling with her new workmates would help her discover new spots that she wouldn't have otherwise known. Our instincts might go against this, but this strategy is much better.

Amanda Hits the Local Spots, Including the Church

Soon, Amanda was settling in and was already attending the local church. Religion can be helpful while navigating a break-up, and maybe Amanda felt that she needed more guidance to help her understand her new situation. At the church, she soon makes good friends with the local pastor.

The pastor is also somewhat similar to Amanda; he has no immediate family living with him and spends most of his time alone. Therefore, he and Amanda end up spending lots of time together. Soon enough, they became good friends, and he had a great but strange idea to help her through.

The Job Search

Almost everybody has experienced what it feels like to look for work. Job hunting, especially in a town that we are not familiar with, is not easy. However, we have to keep a positive attitude and view the process as an interesting challenge that will result in a great reward.

Amanda went through a similar experience. She went through job adverts and decided to apply to an architectural firm similar to the one she was previously working for. This firm was smaller than her former one, but she decided to apply anyway because she got a good feeling about it.

Amanda Decides to Alter her Appearance

Sometimes we crave change when life isn't going how we would want it to go, and this is exactly what Amanda was going through. For good reason, she blamed her looks for how her life was going. Some people would call her crazy, but she actually had a good point.

Many people would want to be better looking than they are, they would not choose to be unattractive, but Amanda was the exact opposite. She wanted to look worse than she currently did because she believed that people were not seeing her for who she really was; they were only interested in her for her looks.

Pretty Privilege

Good-looking people, just like Amanda, are normally considered almost perfect. Other people think they are good at everything even when they clearly aren't. This is what is known as pretty privilege. It is when conventionally attractive people are given more opportunities purely based on looks instead of earning their positions like average-looking people.

Amanda was tired of this, and so she decided to take drastic measures. She went to the store and bought a fat bodysuit, ugly dentures, and prosthetics to make herself appear more average. This was a crazy idea, but she needed to prove that she was more than just a pretty face.

Making Herself Look Average

After changing her appearance using makeup and all the other things she bought, Amanda was unrecognizable even to the people who knew her well. She wondered if people would treat her differently now. To make sure she didn’t look like herself, she tested her new look on her brother, and he did not recognize her either.

Satisfied that her look worked, she was now ready to test it out in the world. Most people are convinced that average-looking people are treated worse. According to research, people who are not considered attractive are more likely to be harassed and treated cruelly by co-workers.

Job Interview

Job interviews are scary events for everybody. It is a time when we can’t help but be anxious. We are going to meet new people whose sole purpose is to judge us, and they judge us based on our looks, qualifications, demeanor, and ability to sell ourselves.

Amanda had already proven herself to be a self-driven and innovative young woman, and now she was about to prove her bravery as well. She decided to attend the job interview while sporting her new look. It would seem that she was determined to be judged on skills alone and not physical appearance.

Max Asks Personal Questions

Amanda arrived at her job interview feeling nervous but prepared, and she was determined to make the best first impression. Her disguise actually made her more confident, and she felt good that she would not be judged by her looks. She met her new potential boss called Max, and he was the person conducting the interviews.

Max asked her a few questions, including personal ones, such as whether she was married or single. Amanda decided to lie and say that she was married and had two kids because she felt like that would deter men from work from approaching her for relationships.

Why Do Interviewers Ask Personal Questions?

We may feel like it is an invasion of privacy, but interviewers ask personal questions for a good reason. They want to know how committed we will be in our new role. Some employers also believe that unattached workers will be more committed to their new role than their committed counterparts.

While asking potential employees if they are married or not may be considered inappropriate, it is not illegal. Amanda decided to lie to her own advantage because she had her own reasons in mind, but if she got caught and her employer found out she lied, she might get fired.

You’re Hired!

It was Amanda’s lucky day—turns out she got hired! Max did not verify whether or not she was married, but he decided to hire her on the spot because of her qualifications. She came from a bigger firm than the one Max had, and he felt that it was to his advantage to have Amanda on his team.

Almost all employers perform background checks on their candidates. This verification process protects the organization from theft, fraud, abuse, or violence. Not doing a thorough background check could potentially harm the organization. However, in this case, Max decided to go with his instincts.

Finally, Validated

Amanda felt victorious after she got hired. For once in her life, she felt validated in knowing that her good looks did not get her what she wanted. Instead, it was purely her qualifications and skills that got her hired for the new job.

Some women can relate to Amanda. From a young age, women are taught that only their good looks matter in life. However, this is a false narrative that ends up hurting people because, in the end, we all need more than just our physical appearance to get us the important things in life, such as a rewarding career.

Time for Orientation

Now that Amanda had been hired, it was time for her to get introduced to the other employees in her office. Orientation is an important step in the hiring process. It is the foundation on which the new employees will base their interactions with their new co-workers.

It encourages the employee to be confident and adapt faster to their new environment; it also provides them with accurate information about what their new role will entail and helps them integrate into the new workplace seamlessly. The entire process encourages communication between the new worker, her supervisor, and the other existing staff.

Amanda’s Co-workers - Juan

The first person that Amanda was introduced to was Juan. He was a focused family man with three kids and was in school studying to get a master's degree. He was a bit shy but seemed like a really nice guy. Juan wasn't Amanda's type, and she wouldn't be attracted to him in normal circumstances.

However, her relationships hadn't been working, and she wondered if this was the type of person she should be getting into relationships with. Amanda was still unsure of how to navigate relationships with men, but one thing she was sure of was that she didn't want any attention from the opposite gender.

Meeting Karen and Marcelo

The next person Amanda was introduced to was Karen, who was the hot young woman in the office who had every man’s attention. She probably did the least work but was favored by everybody because of her looks. She reminded Amanda of herself.

Next, she was introduced to Marcelo. He was the official office playboy and an architect who was handsome and good at his job but very ignorant and shallow. Amanda hated to admit it, but this was the type of person she was physically attracted to. However, when she heard him talk, she realized that he wasn’t a good person.

Marcelo Only Cares About People’s Looks

Marcello was a typical womanizer who only cared about people’s physical appearance. This is an incredibly shallow way of treating other human beings; people are much more than just their looks. From her experience with men, Amanda could tell the type of person Marcelo was. When she met him, she was immediately put off.

The feeling was mutual for Marcelo. He also did not like Amanda. The minute he met her, he was completely repulsed because she looked like any other typical older woman with children. So when they decided to stay away from each other, the feeling was reciprocated by both.

Work Begins

At their first meeting, the team was dealing with a building that had just been remodeled by their firm but was experiencing internet interference. So far, nobody had been able to figure out what the problem was. Amanda immediately recognizes that it might be a VP1 service problem.

When she tells the team her thoughts, one of her coworkers doesn't want her to be involved. She believed that she was still new and that her involvement would only interfere with the project. However, Max thinks Amanda should be part of the project because she is very talented. He dismisses Karen’s idea that Amanda will bring complications.

The Site Visit

Amanda is officially assigned the task of finding out why the building has internet interference. She, Marcelo, and Juan are sent to the site. While there, Marcelo was busy telling Juan about his misadventures with various women while Amanda concentrated on figuring out the problem on her own.

Amanda sees a railway station nearby and figures out that the interference must be coming from there. As they head over to the station, the boys continue having their conversation, and she can’t help but feel irritated by Marcelo’s lack of professionalism. However, since she was new, she did not mind picking up some extra work.

Amanda Figures Out the Problem

While at the train station, Amanda found that there were water channels that passed right underneath the building, and it was most likely they were interfering with the internet connection. Amanda and Marcelo decide to go check that out while Juan stays to monitor when the next train would depart from the station.

Amanda goes underground on her own, leaving Marcelo outside to test the frequency of the internet waves. She was brave and eager to prove herself, and she felt that the boys were incompetent. Therefore, she decided to take matters into her own hands, and she ventured into the tunnels.

She Gets Stuck

While Amanda was investigating the problem, she needed to go through one of the gates underneath the railway station, but she couldn’t get through in her fat suit. So, she decided to take it off so that she could fit through the tiny space.

The team was communicating through walkie-talkies, but Amanda lost her signal because she was underground. Soon Marcelo came looking for her, and she panicked. When he came nearer, she quickly shone the torch in his face, temporarily blinding him so he doesn’t see her without the disguise. While he blocked his face with his hand, Amanda figured out how to explain herself.

A Sticky Situation

Amanda frantically told Marcelo that she had to remove her clothes so they won't get dirty. He then asked her if she needed any help, and she told him she was fine and she would take care of herself. Luckily, Marcelo didn't put up a fight, he just turned away and left.

Amanda sighed in relief. She was glad he didn't stay to help her, and she wasn't ready to reveal herself to anyone. Now, she began to have second thoughts about Marcelo. He had offered to help her, and she started wondering if he was actually a nice guy beneath all that playboy bravado.

A Succesful First Assignment

The team had a successful day, so they wanted to celebrate their victory. They decide to go to a nearby pub to have a few drinks and have a quick overview of the day. They took Amanda's car, which is strategically filled with children's toys, to make her backstory more realistic.

When they get to the bar, Marcelo is still having his casual misogynistic conversations with Juan. What he doesn't seem to understand is that Juan is a happily married man and is not interested in his conquests with women. He made both Amanda and Juan feel uncomfortable.

At the Bar

Juan soon excused himself because he was studying for his master's exams, and Amanda and Marcelo were left by themselves in the pub. Amanda couldn't help but feel attracted to Marcelo, and she decided to confront him about his many s*xist comments during the day.

He casually admits that he only wants women for their bodies and only for the night. He did not believe in commitment. In fact, he believed that marriage and children were the ends of a man's life. The more he talked, the more Amanda got infuriated by him; he reminded her of her ex, Pablo.

Amanda Always has a Plan

When she got home, Amanda couldn’t get the events of the day out of her mind. She was disgusted by how shallow and annoying Marcelo was—yet she couldn’t help but feel attracted to him. She felt sorry for him because he would never experience true love and friendship.

Suddenly, an idea occurred to her. She wanted to teach the man a lesson. When she took off the fat suit, Amanda realized that she looked exactly like the dream girl Marcelo had described to her. Determined to prove him wrong, she decided to go back to the pub as her true self.

Back at the Pub

Amanda put on her best outfit and headed back to the pub. When she walked into the pub, Marcelo was still there and busy entertaining another woman with drinks and conversation. Amanda hesitated and wondered if she was doing the right thing. After all, she was being deceptive, and she knew it was wrong.

While she stood there thinking, she glanced in Marcelo’s direction, and they made eye contact. Immediately he walked toward her and began asking her questions. At the back of her mind, Amanda remembered how rude he gets to people he doesn’t consider attractive. Instantly, she knew that she had the upper hand.

Amanda Seeks Council

The following day, Amanda felt guilty about her actions, so she decided to seek advice from the only person she trusted; the pastor. She told him about the events of the day and what she had done; she also told him that she wanted to teach Marcelo a lesson.

The man of God disagreed with all that she had done. He told her since she had revealed her real self to Marcelo, one day, she would have to explain to him what she did, and he would not take it well. However, Amanda’s heart was still filled with anger, and she was determined to get her revenge.

Back in the Office

Amanda wasn’t sure what to expect when she got back to the office. One thing she knew for sure was that Marcelo would still be his usual obnoxious self. When she walked in, she was not surprised to hear what the topic was.

True to his form, Marcelo was talking about a beautiful woman he met at the bar who was attracted to him. He actually said that she was throwing herself at him. Amanda wanted to scream, but she decided to keep her cool. Sure, she flirted a bit but never showed him that she was interested in him. He was absolutely exaggerating.

Amanda is Determined to Teach Marcelo a Lesson

The night they had been together, Amanda had told Marcelo that they would meet up the following day in the evening. While he was at the pub waiting for her, Amanda already knew that she would not show up for the date, but she had led him to believe that she would be there.

After making him wait for an hour, she texted him that she would not be able to make it and canceled their date. To infuriate him even further, she stood him up again the following day. However, Marcelo wasn’t giving up easily, and he asked Amanda to meet him at his house the next day.

Marcelo was Still Bragging, to the Wrong Person

Back in the office, Marcelo was busy bragging about his new conquest, who was coming to his house later that evening. He did not realize that he was talking to the real Amanda. She felt guilty but decided that Marcelo needed to be humbled some more.

He continued telling her his plans for the date and told her that he would buy takeout and put it on his plates to pretend that he could actually cook. Amanda keeps wondering how she can teach him a lesson he will never forget. However, she kept a straight face and let him talk.

Amanda Shows up For the Date

When the real Amanda arrived for the date, Marcelo was really impressed with how beautiful she looked. He kept staring at her and complimenting her looks. Amanda politely nodded at him, but she knew who he really was, and she wasn't impressed or moved by his compliments.

To make matters worse, he had lied about the food and pretended that he was the one who made it from scratch. After they had their meal and spoke for a while, Marcelo decided to make his move. He begins kissing Amanda on her arm, but she quickly turns him down and makes up an excuse to leave his house.

Rejection Stings

Marcelo was not used to rejection, and this one really stung. He couldn’t believe the girl he liked didn’t like him back. When he got back to the office, he poured out his heart to Amanda, letting her know how the girl had brutally rejected him.

Amanda patiently listened to him, and she realized that they had now become real friends. Marcelo also felt the same way. He had never been friends with any other woman in his life, and he slowly realized that he genuinely liked the fake Amanda and her personality. Despite her not being what he usually considered attractive, he still liked her.

A Jealous Workmate

Unfortunately, jealousy is a very common emotion, and there was someone watching Amanda and Marcelo, and their heart was heavy with envy. Remember, people at work can be observant, and Karen, Amanda’s co-worker, had a serious crush on Marcelo. She was closely watching the pair as they bonded.

Karen was constantly spying on Marcelo and Amanda, and she soon realized what was going on. She had also observed that despite saying that she had two little boys, no one had ever met Amanda’s children. Soon she began to question Amanda about this and began asking if she could meet her kids.

A Play Date

Amanda couldn't risk her boss getting suspicious about her background, so she decided to arrange with the pastor for a playdate with two children that were under his care. The pastor had two young boys he arranged with Amanda to pick up on her way home from work.

The following day, Amanda decided to go with the boys to work so that Karen could stop being suspicious of her. While she was at work, she noticed that Marcelo was interested in the boys, and he was playing with them, especially the younger ones. He obviously loved kids, despite what he had said earlier about not wanting children.

Fake Amanda Helps Marcelo Prepare for a Date

Marcelo kept complaining about the girl he liked but who kept rejecting him to the fake Amanda. She decided that she needed to get to really know Marcelo, and she suggested that she come over to his place and she would teach him how to make real food for his girlfriend instead of offering her cheap takeout.

Marcelo liked this idea. He was excited that he finally had a female friend that could potentially help him understand women. While they were at his place cooking, he confessed to fake Amanda that he felt like he was falling in love with the woman he was pursuing.

Was Marcelo Falling for Fake Amanda?

While they cooked, they kept talking, and Marcelo realized that Amanda was actually a really fun person to hang out with, and she could make good food. After they were done eating, they went out to the terrace and continued talking.

"Fake" Amanda asked Marcelo if he was ready to settle down with Amanda if she actually began to like him. She also told Marcelo that he was afraid of commitment and that one day some woman would come into his life and change his mind. Suddenly, Marcelo leaned in and kissed her. Marcelo apologized immediately, but they both couldn't deny that sparks were flying between them.

The Love of His Life

Back at the office, Marcelo decided to talk to Max about all his recent adventures. He further explained to Max how he felt like he was in love with two women and wasn’t sure who to pick. He further elaborates to him how one is his type, and the other one isn’t quite what he would normally consider attractive.

Max was impressed that Marcelo genuinely liked someone. This wasn’t like him, and it was quite a pleasant surprise to his boss. Max told him if he really wanted to know who he loved, he should close his eyes and that whoever he pictured was his true love.

Another Date with Amanda

Marcelo asked Amanda for another date and invited her over to his house. This time, he takes his time and cooks her actual food. They then sit on the couch and begin cuddling, and Marcelo decides to tell Amanda that he is in love with her.

Amanda knows he is lying and is disappointed and disgusted that he still chooses looks over substance. If there was someone he was in love with, it was the “fake” Amanda. Right there, and then she decides to humiliate him. She leads him on and puts handcuffs on him but leaves him locked on the bedpost with no clothes on.

A Changed Man

After everything he had gone through, Marcelo felt different. He knew he needed to settle down and devote his life to one woman. After the previous night's humiliation, he decided he would never talk to Amanda again. The police had to come and release him from the handcuffs, and he felt embarrassed and exposed.

Later that night, he got drunk and went to "fake" Amanda's house. He wasn't sure what his plan was, but he just wanted someone to talk to and understand him. He was looking for a friend. However, Amanda felt too guilty to face him, and besides, she was still angry that he didn't choose her.

Amanda Seeks Help from the Pastor

Amanda returned to the pastor and began explaining the last few weeks' events. The pastor is kind and understanding and actually feels sorry for Amanda. He tells her that she is clearly in love with Marcelo. Amanda already knew this. She was deeply hurt after she went to the office and found out that Marcelo had begun dating Karen.

She did not understand this sudden move from Marcelo. However, looking back at what she had done, she blamed herself for how things turned out. If she hadn’t lied and hidden her true self, maybe he would have eventually fallen in love with the real her.

Marcelo Makes a Drastic Decision

We have all gone through life-altering events that leave us changed forever, and that is what Marcelo was experiencing. He felt like if he didn’t get married immediately; he would actually lose his mind. He knew for a fact that he didn’t love Karen, but he didn’t care. He could still devote himself to her.

He went down on one knee and proposed to her, and she accepted. Later, he went over to fake Amanda’s house to tell her he was getting married. When he arrived, Amanda didn’t open the door, and he had to talk to her through the closed door.

Marcelo Confesses that He is in Love with Amanda

Amanda listened to him through the door. First, he told her he was getting married, and he finally admitted that he loved her. Amanda just listened to him helplessly, but she knew they couldn’t be together after all the lies and humiliations she had put the man through.

She knew it took a lot for Marcelo to declare his love, and a part of her knew he was hoping she would tell him to stop the wedding. However, she was scared. She would have to admit that she was the one that cuffed him on the bed and left him, and she wasn’t actually fat!

The Wedding Day

A few months later, the wedding preparations were complete, and it was the day of the wedding. Before Marcelo walked into the church, he ran into “fake” Amanda and his co-workers. They begin having a conversation, and it is clear to both that they still have feelings for each other.

They exchanged a hug, and it was time for Marcelo to get into the church. At the altar, the pastor asked the audience if there was anyone against the couple getting married. There was a deathly silence in the church when the unthinkable happened. Amanda’s dentures fell right out of her mouth, and the entire congregation turned to stare.

The Wedding is Off

Marcelo must have been looking for any reason not to get married. When her dentures fell out, Amanda ran out of the church, and Marcelo ran after her leaving his bride at the altar. Once he caught up with Amanda, she decided that she had nothing to lose and came clean about everything that she had done.

Everything was now clear to Marcelo, and he finally understood why he had been so confused about Amanda. Her demeanor and how she carried herself reminded him of the attractive woman he had met at the pub. Nothing was keeping them apart now, and they could finally be together.
